Privacy Policy

Sherloot is an Android app that lets you take a photo of an object and uses the Google Gemini API to identify it and suggest a market value range. This policy describes what data we collect and what we do with it.

What we collect

  1. Photos you submit. When you tap "Appraise", the app sends the selected image to our backend, which forwards it to Google's Gemini API for analysis. The image is processed in memory and not stored on our servers.
  2. Your Google account identifier. When you sign in with Google, we receive your Firebase user ID (UID) and email address. We store the UID to track how many free appraisals you have used and (in the future) whether you have an active subscription.
  3. Usage counters. We count the number of appraisals you make for billing and abuse-prevention purposes.
  4. Diagnostic data. Standard mobile app crash reports may be collected by Google Play Services and Firebase.

Not a real appraisal

Sherloot provides AI-generated hints about what an object might be and what it could be worth. It is not a substitute for a professional appraisal from a qualified appraiser, auctioneer, dealer, or expert. Do not buy, sell, insure, or claim the value of any object based solely on a Sherloot result. For anything potentially valuable, always confirm with a real expert before acting.
